1932 Ford Sedan
My first Jalopy will be made from the 1/25th scale 1932 Ford Sedan/Phaeton "Switchers" kit.
I am loosely basing this on a old Southern driver named Horace "Pappy" Crane
I sanded out the windows to enlarge them. I also added a top driver entrance and then a few holes in the back.
The wheel wells were slightly enlarged as well. Nothing perfect here either.
After all...it is a jalopy not a show car :)
The body mount is cut from styrene plastic. I then add another shim of plastic and top it off with a popsicle stick.
The shims are glued in using standard Testors model glue, then topped off with hot glue.
This gives a very strong mounting point.
This is the rear bulkhead from the H&R chassis. AS you can see it has been heavily modified.
I shave the outer mounting points so that the body fits over them.
I cut the frame rail 4 inches long then made
the front bends in a hobby vise.
Then measured and cut the square tube axle housing and soldered in place.
We now have a roller. The wheelbase is a little
shorter than our modifieds.
I set it right about 4 1/4 inches.
Starting to come together. Time for nerf bars here and there.
Went with a more traditional design for the front bumper.
Drilling small holes in the top of the frame helps support the bars while soldering.
Ok, added the hood and placed it on the chassis for a mock-up. It's coming to life.
Time for some side nerf bars.
On this car I am not trying to match each side perfectly nor do we want anything
too advanced or "pretty"
Drill some small pilot holes for what size bar you are going to use.
This is why I like using this frame rail tubing. It allows you to do this
which makes mounting and soldering these bars much easier.
Just a simple tubing design for the rear bumper. I used solid brass for the supports.
And there we have it. The chassis is completed aside from some details we will add later.
