Scatman’s Raceway
It took some time to figure out how to maximize the space with as much track as possible. Thanks to Gene from
SlotCarPlace who gave me the idea. The track is on a table that is 6 feet wide and 8 feet long with a shelf that runs along the table. The sidepiece gives me an extra 20 inches of width.
As you can see the track brand is Carrera. I switched about a year ago from Scalextric Classic. My goal was to be able to run both 1/32 and 1/24. Well, I spend most my time with 1/32. The track surface and the quality of the track are great. Haven’t tried the Scalextric Sport or the Artin but looking at the surface of the Artin it seems identical.
In this picture you can see that I still have the track wired using the terminal and on the right I have the Scalextric Pacer system. This is whom I race against. Can’t get the wife to join or my co-workers. The Lap counter is hardly ever used. I guess I need to put batteries in the thing. Here’s a good picture of the shelf. The table doesn’t go all the way to the wall.
Wasted space. That’s why I added the shelf. Now that I have a track that I think I enjoy, I’ll start working on the scenery and track supports. Probably won’t see the supports once I build the scenery. For boarders I used .040 thick Evergreen Scale Model styrene. (Part Number 19040) To fasten it to the track, I used paper fasteners.
Just remove the handle. (The piece you pinch together to open the fastener) Works well. You can find them at Office Depot. Carrera Boarders, where do I start? First, they take some time to install. You have to connect it to the track as you build your layout. This takes some time. On I side note, I wish they would remove the yellow. One less step and would save money. Here’s my dilemma. Now that I found the layout that I like I will have to take it apart just to paint the shoulders. Crap!!! It took me three hours to build.
